2ND EDITION OF PUBLIC ENTERPRISE LEAGUE TABLE (PELT) AWARDS 2023

The Public Enterprises Secretariat in collaboration with the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) and the Ministry of Finance on October 11, 2023 awarded a number of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE’s) and Other Specified Entities (OSE’s) for their enormous contribution in the industry during its 2nd edition of the Public Enterprise League Table (PELT) Awards 2023 on the theme ‘Developing the Economic Superhighway through enhanced corporate governance of specified entities’

The Director General of SIGA, Ambassador Eward Boateng, in his opening remarks welcomed everyone and hinted that while the purpose of the event is to honor and recognize performing State entities, it also serves as a catalyst for underperforming enterprises to get up and engage with other successful businesses in their respective sectors, learning all they need to know to increase productivity and profit margins for their entities.

He again emphasized on the need for SOE’s and OSE’s to expand their markets outside of Ghana and forge safe economic ties with other countries in Africa and beyond.

During the event, a few significant stakeholders and notable guests discussed the scheme. While its main goal is to foster healthy competition among state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in the nation, state-owned enterprises also have an obligation to ensure that the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, realizes his vision for the sector.
The Minister of Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Board Chair of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO), and Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere were among the prominent attendees at the event.

There were five categories for the awards. The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation won the Most Compliant SOE category, and the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority won the Most Compliant OSE category. In the second category, the Ghana Airports Company Limited won the Most Profitable SOE of the Year award.

The Ghana Metrological Agency won the Most Efficient OSE award. The Gaming Commission of Ghana won the Most Financially Stable OSE award. The Northern Electronic Development Company Limited won the Best SOE – Dynamic Effect category, and the Food and Drugs Authority of Ghana took home the Best OSE – Dynamic Effect title.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority earned the SOE of the Year award, while the Food and Drugs Authority of Ghana claimed the Best OSE of the Year and Entity of the Year titles.
